Brand lineups

Each luxury house has its own names for the same steps. Knowing which line is the rich cream, which is the serum and which is the refill makes their counters easier to read.

Brands such as La Prairie, Augustinus Bader, Dr. Barbara Sturm, Shiseido, Lancome, SK-II, Estee Lauder and Guerlain sell their products in named lines, each with several textures and sizes. A line name often says nothing about the step, so the pages here translate each line into plain terms: what step it is, which textures exist and which sizes are sold.

Product names, ingredients and sizes are taken from what each brand and its Amazon listings state. Formulas and sizes change over time, so the box in your hand is the final word.

Common mistakes

  • Assuming two products with the same line name are the same step.
  • Comparing a gift set to a full size without converting both to price per ml.
