Luxury skincare labels mix units. One cream says 50 ml, another says 1.7 oz, a third says 50 g, and an essence says 7.7 fl oz. This page is a quick reference for US shoppers who want to compare sizes and prices fairly. It has a conversion chart for the common jar and bottle sizes, the reverse chart for the ounce sizes printed on US boxes, a short explanation of grams versus milliliters, and real examples from the products in our guides. Use it alongside our price per ml calculator to work out what each jar actually costs.

The ml to fl oz chart

These are the sizes you see most often on luxury skincare. Brands usually round the ounce figure on the box, so a 50 ml jar is printed as 1.7 fl oz or 1.69 fl oz depending on the brand.

The fl oz to ml chart

US boxes often lead with ounces. Here is the reverse, rounded to the size the product is usually sold as. Search terms like 1.7 oz in ml or 50 ml in oz come down to the same pair.

Grams vs milliliters: why some jars say g

Milliliters and fluid ounces measure volume. Grams and net weight ounces measure weight. Some brands label creams by weight, for example 50 g or 1.7 oz net wt. A net weight ounce is 28.35 g, which is not the same as a fluid ounce of 29.57 ml.

Creams are close to water in density, so 50 g of cream is near 50 ml, but not exactly. The difference depends on the formula, and the label will not tell you the density. For price comparisons, treat 1 g as roughly 1 ml and accept a small margin of error, or compare grams with grams and ml with ml where you can.

Watch for the oz on a US box. If it says fl oz, it is volume. If it says oz or net wt oz, it is usually weight.

Real sizes from the products in our guides

Here is how the units look on actual listings. Some brands give ml, some give ounces, and some give both. Several La Prairie listings give no size at all, which is why our La Prairie guide marks them as not stated.

Using sizes to compare prices

A larger size often costs less per ml, as with Augustinus Bader The Cream at 100 ml versus 50 ml. Refills can also lower the cost; see luxury skincare refills explained. For a deeper walkthrough, read how to calculate skincare price per ml and our price per ml chart.

  1. 1

Find the size on the box or listing and convert it to ml if it is in fl oz (multiply by 29.57).

  2. 2

Divide the price by the ml to get the price per ml.

  3. 3

Multiply the price per ml by 29.57 if you want the price per fl oz.

  4. 4

Compare products at the same unit, not by sticker price.
